For Rent Annex Slindon
4 Max Guests
2 bedrooms
1 bathroom

The carriage has been lovingly restored and guests and will appreciate the high finish with incredible attention to detail. There is a table with 4 chairs, a sofa and a small television in the living room together with a bijou cooking area with combi oven/microwave, electric hob, sink, under counter fridge and simple cooking equipment.  The master bedroom is small but has a full size 4ft 6ins bed and there is a tiny second bedroom with full size bunk beds.

The bathroom has a shower, a sink, a heated towel rail and a normal flushing loo (no chemical loo here!) but do be aware that this room is very compact so it may not suitable for those of a larger build or guests with restricted mobility.

Adjacent to the railway carriage is ‘the station’ which guests may use on request if they would appreciate extra space for relaxing, watching TV and playing one of the many board games we have available for family fun.  This is a really good size living room with a larger table and chairs, a washing machine and airer.

Both the carriage and ‘the station’ have central heating and radiators throughout, so it is suitable for stays throughout the year.

The railway carriage is situated well away from the road in a tranquil and beautiful spot next to the tennis court in the garden, and adjacent to National Trust woods.  The carriage is close to pony paddocks and stables on the other side of a fence so will appeal to horse lovers – but if you are allergic to horses or their environment this probably isn’t the place for you! Do be aware as well that the carriage is immaculate – freshly restored and clean but as this is a very rural environment the occasional spider or fly may come to join the party from time to time.

Guests are very welcome to borrow tennis rackets and balls and use the court.  There is outside seating for guests to enjoy during the warmer months and a lovely BBQ area.

There is no internet at the railway carriage but 4G works perfectly so guests can hotspot from their mobile. Wifi can be accessed in the garden nearer the farmhouse.

Slindon is a beautiful village between Chichester and Arundel.  There is a village shop, café and a pottery shop.  There are incredible walks/bike rides right from the door either into National Trust Woods or up into the South Downs. The nearest beach is about 15 minutes drive away and there is the fun of Arundel Castle and many other cultural activities for all ages to enjoy close by!

Please note that Goodwood bookings are a minimum of 4 nights.

We enjoyed our Easter weekend at the carriage. Beautiful grounds with a great tennis court, the carriage is well equipped and very comfortable! Thank you Jayne for the warm welcome. We will come back!

Anne-Cécile - April 2024

We had a great family stay. It was a last minute half term booking at the end of October. We weren't fortunate with the weather but it was warm and cosy in the carriage / every break in the rain the kids were straight back out on the tennis court. It was also really nice to have the additional space next to the carriage which we made good use of. The kids enjoyed seeing the ponies just over the fence and one morning we woke to see deer investigating the tennis court. Our host was great and made us feel really welcome. Would definitely come again:)

Simon - October 2023

Highly recommend booking. Jayne the owner was very welcoming and offered lots of help and local knowledge about beaches, Goodwood and Arundel events providing additional booklets. Gave us fresh picked fruit and made sure as we had a 4 month old baby, that we had everything needed. Jayne shared the history behind the train carriage, which added to the charm. Free tennis equipment was available and the full sized court was amazing as Jayne and her family avoid using while guest are there despite their obvious love of tennis. Perfect stress free holiday and will definitely book again.

Helen - August 2023

Stayed with my wife and two young kids (2 and 4). As tennis nuts we couldn't believe our luck when we found this property and man it did not disappoint! The tennis court is in sublime condition and absolutely stunning surroundings. We were after a low-key, easy relaxing time in the countryside with the kids with an easy day trip or two nearby in the car and this gave us just that. My daughter loved going to see the ponies in the neighbouring fields and the kids (and us) loved playing tennis on the court and other ball games / silly stuff on the grass. The train itself is really incredible, and restored in a really faithful yet modern and clean way. I'm 6 foot 3 and we shared the place with two young kids running around, but the additional annex/living room on the side gave us that extra bit of storage room / play area. We did admittedly get incredibly lucky with the weather with 4 days of glorious sunshine! We will be back!

Sean - May 2023

An amazing stay in fantastic accommodation. The train carriage has been beautify renovated/restored, with loads of lovely touches and original features. Our daughters (twins aged 4) had a great time, and the bunk beds were a real hit. The location is stunning, really quiet and next to horse paddocks. The girls enjoyed saying morning to the horses each day. There is also a tennis court next to the accommodation. We were kindly provided with tennis rackets and had a quick knock. The host is brilliant and really helped make our stay special. This included helping us find the accommodation when we arrived late on the first night and regularly checking everything was ok. I’d highly recommend a stay here and hope we can go back one day.

This is a quirky (in a really good way) get away from everything sort of place. Really thoughtful touches and quality finishes make this special! Thoroughly recommended for anyone looking to explore the area, and there is loads to see/do.

James - July 2022

Had a wonderful week staying in the Railway carriage in Slindon Village, the children really enjoyed the experience especially the grounds were there was a lot of room for them to run around. There was plenty to do in the area several attractions including Arundel castle were a short drive away. There was also a local pub and shop within walking distance. The owner was very accommodating and provided advice on where to take the children as well as lending scooters for the kids. All round a great experience.

Gareth - May 2022

This is such a lovely, quirky but comfortable place to stay. We had a really relaxing time....and slept really well. My 8 year old son has been telling everyone he meets that we stayed in a railway carriage and I know it will be a memory that will stay with him. It was a real bonus having the use of the tennis court. Its a great location with easy access to Arundel and the coast. Jayne (the owner) gave us some recommendations which were very useful. Highly recommended

Joanne - April 2022

We really enjoyed our stay in the Carriage, and the host Jayne was incredibly accommodating and helpful. There was no actual Wifi as advertised and we felt it a little unfair to advertise the wifi symbol on the AirBnB page and then use the blurb to say otherwise.

John - November 2021

We had a terrific time at the railway carriage. It's small but perfectly formed with everything you might want for a short break away from home. The beds were comfortable, the towels were thick and fluffy, and there were even bathrobes provided! The little kitchen was just big enough to make proper meals, and had a combination oven/microwave, 2 electric rings, and a decent size under-counter fridge, plus good pans and decent sharp knives. The sofa was a cosy place to curl up with a book in the evening. The location is also fabulous. There's a great shop and cafe (The Forge) within walking distance and also a nice village pub where we got a lovely dinner one evening. You can walk out of the door and into NT woodlands and there's plenty to explore within walking distance. A short drive takes you to Arundel, and we even had a day out in Brighton which was only about an hour away by car. Our host was awesome and checked in with us frequently to make sure there was nothing else we needed. She even provided some home-grown courgettes for our dinner one evening!

Helen - August 2021

An amazing place to stay, with a friendly helpful host who will do anything to help whilst there. Really accommodating with the children. Great facilities and a great location with plenty to do. The tennis court helped keep the kids entertained and they had access to a large field where the host mowed them a cricket wicket! A great stay, highly recommended!
