For Rent Townhouse
Walker House is an 18th Century listed Georgian Townhouse situated in the very heart of the old market town of Arundel, West Sussex. This beautifully furnished house is full of character with both formal and informal areas to relax. The large walled gardens are quite unique with individual areas on different levels giving a wonderful show of mature trees, plants and shrubs.
From Tarrant St the visitor walks into a new bespoke kitchen and dining area with a wood-burning stove and seating for up to 6 guests. This leads up to one of the oldest parts of the house which now serves as an office. This was the ancient kitchen with its flagstone floors, a still functioning Rayburn cooker (for those who care to experiment with an old and gentle means of cooking) and behind it, a utility room equipped with washing machine. From the kitchen, visitors access the garden and outdoor seating areas.
There are two sitting rooms on the next level: one a comfortable living room with wooden floors and ornamental fireplace and the other a snug in which to watch television. Several steps up again one finds a small double bedroom and half bath consisting of toilet and sink. On the second floor there is a fabulous master bedroom with double bed and family bathroom which has both a bath and shower stall.
The property looks quite formal in some photos but guests will see that Walker House has the feel of a cosy cottage rather than smart townhouse – the areas are unique and quirky – not grand and smart.
Please be aware that because the property is on different levels it is not suitable for children or those less mobile. The photographs show the house complete with the owner’s ornaments but the more personal or delicate items have been removed to make the house suitable for holiday letting.
Walker House is located in the very best area of town which is bursting with antique shops, vibrant restaurants, cafes and pubs—-and all within a stone’s throw from the house. The magnificent Arundel Castle and imposing Arundel Cathedral are just a few minutes’ walk from the house.
For those keen on hiking the South Downs are quite breath-taking and there are an abundance of cultural excursions to be enjoyed including visits to stately homes such as Parham House and Petworth Park, the Roman ruins in Fishbourne and famous towns such as Brighton and Portsmouth all within of easy reach of Arundel town. Chichester Festival Theatre hosts many top actors in critically acclaimed plays.
For those who enjoy the beach the part stone part sandy beaches of the South Coast are only 10 minutes’ drive away and are quiet and unspoilt. There is a good Links golf course at Littlehampton and sailing from Chichester and Bosham. Guests who enjoy top class sport Goodwood provides a wealth of entertainment with the Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival whilst the height of the horse racing season is celebrated at Glorious Goodwood.
Arundel is only 53 miles from London and there is a train station on the outskirts of town making it easily accessible for a romantic weekend away or a longer break to enjoy the all delights of the most beautiful town and idyllic countryside of West Sussex.
