Northmoor House, Dorset

This house is a home away from home with lots of fun things for the kids to play but is comfortable and homely for the adults. It is perfectly suited for a party of 2 or 3 families – in the main house there are 4 bedrooms upstairs with 2 bathrooms and downstairs there is a guest bedroom with en-suite shower room. For the kids or teenagers there is a great sleepover room on the other side of the courtyard that sleeps 6 with shower room and its own kitchen. There is a large garden, cricket net, trampoline, football goal and games room.

This is a family house for much of the year so the owner’s belongings are in the house and the resident cat stays home as do the chickens but they are both taken care of by the housekeeper who lives in a separate house in the complex. There is a big family kitchen and larder, music room, WC, utility and boot room and dining hall which seats up to 16 guests. There is a study/kids room and more formal sitting room on the ground floor. For those hosting the older generation the guest bedroom with en-suite shower room on the ground floor is ideal for those less mobile.

On the first floor there are 3 bedrooms – the master bedroom is large and comfortable with an en- suite bathroom. Bedrooms 2 and 3 are a modest size and there is a family bathroom on this floor. Bedroom 4 in the attic is very large and we can put an extra mattress in there if required.

The kids will love the games room with darts, snooker, table tennis and punch bag. There is a sleepover room above with TV, sitting area and beds to sleep 6. The sleepover room also has its own kitchen and shower room but do note that the kitchen is sometimes used in the evening by the gardener who lives in one of the separate units in the complex.

When you arrive you will find a huge turning circle and parking for up to 6 cars. The house has its own front door as does the kid’s games room/sleepover room. Behind the house is a large private garden for guests with trampoline, football net, cricket net and various fun things to do (ancient croquet set, badminton, bounce-back net etc). There is a low key tennis club around the corner for which short term membership can be arranged for a small fee.

There is a beautiful private outdoor dining area under the vine in the garden which seats up to 16 guests.

Minimum booking length low & mid season is 3 nights and high season is 7 nights.

We have a primary renter minimum age requirement of 30 years old.

This house is funky and fun but it is not smart and we do have our own belongings here so we really enjoy hosting guests who would like to share our beautiful house but who aren’t looking for a perfect boutique hotel experience and who will love and care for our home as we do. There are staff on site if you need help and the children are very welcome to collect eggs from the hen houses in the morning but you won’t need to actually care for the animals!

Nearby attractions are Stonehenge, the glorious house and gardens of Stourhead, Bath is a 50 minute drive and there is brilliant shopping and dining in Frome. The beach is about an hour away and Cheddar Gorge and Go Ape down in Moors Valley are within striking distance….. but you might want to just sit in the sunshine and enjoy the peace! We are lucky in that we are in the middle of the countryside with glorious walks right from the door but we are only 5 minutes’ drive from Waitrose and 7 minutes from the nearest mainline station Gillingham, Dorset.
