Challenge Cottage is an appealing period holiday cottage close to Arundel Castle and the centre of town which sleeps 2-4 guests.  The cottage is bursting with all the charm of a genuine 18th century cottage but has been carefully refurbished to be both pretty and comfortable.

Guests will enjoy the attractive living room with electric wood burner with flame and comfy seating for 4. There is a smart TV and wifi.  The living room leads onto a country kitchen with oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer.  There is a small table in the kitchen which seats up to 4 guests.  To the rear of the cottage the charming courtyard garden with outside seating area enables guests to enjoy the sunshine on a warm day.

On the first floor is a light and airy double bedroom and bathroom.  The second floor has a double bedroom with views towards Arundel Castle.  Linen and towels are included and beds are made up for your visit.

Please be aware that Arundel cottages are notorious for quite steep stairs and this cottage is no exception…..and it also has slightly restricted head room right at the top of the second floor stairs.  Therefore this cottage is not suitable for those with any sort of mobility issues and children under 12 are not allowed.  No pets are allowed.

There is no private parking at the cottage but there are 1 hour parking spots directly opposite the cottage.  For longer term parking there is a car park at the lido (less than a minute’s walk from the house) tucked away behind the houses opposite or if you prefer to park for free this can be done by parking on Mill Road beyond the castle.

There is so much to do in Arundel town itself that you will find that you don’t need a car unless you want to sightsee further afield.  There is the majestic Arundel Castle to be explored as well as Arundel Cathedral, the museum, Arundel Lido, mini golf, tennis, bowls and river trips all within a 5 minute walk of Challenge Cottage.  For those who enjoy shopping there are wonderful antique shops all over town and gift shops in both the High Street and Tarrant Street.   Arundel is a favourite base for Goodwood Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival.

There are an abundance of cafes and restaurants all within a few minutes’ walk and a fabulous deli and butcher just around the corner as well as a general provisions’ store a few doors down from the cottage.

Please note the minimum booking period of 3 nights except over Christmas which is 7 nights and Goodwood events which is 4 nights.

Please note this is not an automated booking system.  If you would like to make a direct booking please contact me by phone on 01747 824 772 or 07974 740980 or email me at info@lauralye.com with your full address and mobile number and I will send you the booking information and contract.

Reviews

Laura’s place is the perfect home away from home when you plan to spend time in and around Arundel. It’s very close to Chichester and the coast. There is enough space for 2 couples with a nice size kitchen. Bedrooms are also a decent size. The stairs leading to the bathroom and bedrooms are steep and small. I wouldn’t recommend that people who struggle with stairs book here. Laura was a perfect host. Communication is quick and the recommendations are spot on. Would definitely book here again.
Eugene - July 2024
We had an enjoyable 2 week stay at Challenge Cottage. It was as described, cosy and comfortable with easy to access the attractions of Arundel and the local area. Laura responded quickly to our messages and was a helpful host.

Neil - September 2023
Lovely bright little cottage. Great central location yet very quiet. A lovely little cottage, nice and bright and plenty big enough for the pair of us.
David - June 23
Cottage is conveniently located to the centre of Arundel, with good access to amenities (co-op / pubs / takeaways etc) We arrived back after 5pm each evening so easily found free on street parking directly opposite the property. Cottage is cosy and homely inside and fully equipped with everything you'd need for a short stay away. Beds were very comfortable with good quality sheets and pillows. Overall a great property in a good location for exploring the area or visiting events at Goodwood. Would definitely return.
Aland - September 2022
We had a lovely sunny week in Arundel in this cosy quaint cottage which had everything we needed. Daily swims in the heated lido added to our enjoyment. We did lots of gentle countryside walks. We drove and didn't find it difficult to find street parking. There are small local shops and the train station is nearby, so a car is not essential.
Susan - May 2022

The place was warm clean, warm, homey, and super comfortable. The lovely big kitchen has been equipped with all the utensils you could to make a home-made dishes. The location is amazing in the center of Arundel. It's only 1 minute next to the Co-op shop, 3 minutes to the post office, 3 minutes to Arundel Castle. Warmly suggested. Laura was really nice, easy and efficient to communicate with. I had a great time, thanks so much again Laura

The cottage definitely lived up to its previous excellent reviews. A cute, quaint, beautifully presented cottage which was perfect for our stay. Kitchen was very well equipped, with lots of handy unexpected extras (eg oils, spices). Thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Matt - February 2019
The cottage is small but very quaint. It is very close to the centre of Arundel and walking distance from the station so you don't need a car. Would recommend it.
Judith - January 2019
The cottage is small but extremely well thought out and very comfortable. It's ideally situated and Arundel has plenty to offer to keep you busy without even getting in the car. Laura is very reactive and clearly wants to offer the best - which she does!
